The area encompassing the central Balkan Mountains is a crossroad for many tourist routes leading to Bulgaria's major natural and cultural attractions, including the towns of Teteven, Ribaritza, Shipkovo, Apriltsi and so on. This region features a number of monasteries, cobbled-stoned streets, ancient houses and museum villages which still remind the ones of the Bulgarian National Revival Period. 
This tour has a guide and is vehicle supported, but self-guided option is also possible upon request.

Trip plan:

Day 1: Sofia - Chekotinski Monastery - Golyam Izvor
Transfer from Sofia to the village Osikovska Lukavitsa - 80 km. Cycling to Chekotinski Monastery (10 km) .After visiting the monastery we continue cycling along the Maluk Iskar valley to the village of Vidrare and Golyam Izvor where we stay overnight.
Cycling distance: 35 км.

Day 2: Golyam Izvor - Teteven - Ribaritsa
Cycling through the village of Golyam Izvor (ca. 7 km) until we reach the pass offering stunning views over the Cherni Vit valley and the town of Teteven. After short break in the Teteven center we continue our cycling to the village of Rinaritsa for overnight.
Cycling distance: 35 км. Possible extension via Glozene Monastery (+15 km)

Day 3: Ribaritsa - Bogoya Pass - Shipkovo
After a strenuous ascent we reach Bogoya Pass (1100 m.) which is the border between Teteven and Troyan Balkan range. We pass Shipkovo spa village where we can stop for a lunch break and after another 7 km we descend to Chiflik at the foot of Central Balkan National Park. After a relaxing bath in one of the hot mineral water pools (the spring water has station temperature of 35C) we head back to Sofia (3 hours drive). 
Cycling distance: 37 км

Price of extra services: ►single room supplement: 30 EUR ► rent of a helmet: 10 euro; rent of a rear saddlebag: 10 euro; rent of a handle-bar bag: 5 euro

Practical information:   
BIKES: You can choose (depending on the availability) from 2 types of bikes: 1 hardtail performance mountain bike “RAM” with road tires, 24 gears and 80mm front suspension fork and 2. quality road touring bike “DRAG” with 21 gears, 28 inch rims and Shimano components.

TOUR INFO: All bikers receive a detailed roadbook and map. The guide with the supporting vehicle and the luggage inside checks several times a day if everything is OK with the group, waiting by crossroads, accompanying them for breakfast, lunch and dinner and giving them talks by the most interesting sites en-route. The guide is also responsible for the technical support of the bikes.Bikers can always skip some harder stages using the supporting vehicle

RECCOMMENDED EQUIPMENT: We strongly reccomend you to bring a helmet and cycling gloves (helmets can be rented from us upon request).

CONNECTING THE TOUR: In summer time there are loads of opportunities to book a cheap flight to Bourgas or Varna Airport instead of landing at Sofia Airport. We can arrange for you a bus or train ticket to the starting point of the active tour with transfer to the central bus/railway station in these towns, picking you up at the airport upon arrival or vice versa at the end of your tour (this would only cost you appr. 20-30 Euro per car + the bus/train ticket price itself).
