Teteven Balkan – one of the most beautiful parts of the Balkan Mountains – is situated very close to Sofia, it takes only an hour drive. Hidden forest paths lead to high ridges with spacious views – up there, where it’s easy to take a deep breath and where the eyes cannot get enough. But the pleasure is even greater when you enjoy this lovely nature riding on a horse back!

Itinerary:

Golyam Izvor – Glozhen Monastery – Golyam Izvor
We arrive at the village of Golyam Izvor. We meet the horses and get brief instructions. We saddle the horses and head along forest paths to the Ridge of Lisets Mountain, from where a splendid panorama view to Teteven Balkan is revealed. Riding through a century-old beech forest we approach Glozhen Monastery. Its impressive silhouette perched on an inaccessible rock is one of the most impressive sights in Bulgaria. After a short walk inside we return to Golyam Izvor. Drive back to Sofia.
Riding: 4-5 hours

1-day horse riding in the Rodopi Mountains

Steal a day of your busy schedule and use it just for yourself without any remorse. Mount the horse and ride along the meadows and the deciduous forests in the lower parts of the Rodopi Mountains. Relax your senses; recharge your body with the energy of these mighty mountains and enjoy one of the most ancient human pleasures – horse riding!

Itinerary:

Brestovitsa (10 km from Plovdiv) – Red Church - Brestovitsa 
Transfer to our riding base in Brestovitsa at the foot of the Rhodope mountains (2 hours drive from Sofia), where we meet the horses.  This village has a historical background by being one of the havens of a Bulgarian national hero, called Vasil Levski, who was an activist of the liberation movement of Bulgaria during the Ottoman rule.Today we make a loop-like ride, passing along the Red Church - a late Roman basilica which dates back to the 5th-6ht century AD. While riding, we will pass through meadows and forests.According to the season, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the ripe fruits in the area and meet the local people, who work for their livelihood in the field. After the ride we drive back to Sofia.
