Plovdiv is an ancient city with a huge history and importance throughout its life. Accompanying the life of the fearsome Thracians, the wise Byzantines and the great Bulgarians, this city has a lot to show you. Its old town with renaissance houses, archaeological excavations of roman stadiums and aqueducts culminates in the fully restored amphitheater, where if you're lucky you can enjoy a live performance and its acoustics. The main street is full of life, the picturesque neighborhood "Kapana" brings together the best of modern cuisine and of course mellow wine, the area around the mosque and of course the view from the 4 peaks located around the city center can keep you entertained more than necessary. If of course you are a lover of art, culture and antiquities - you will be fascinated walking around the old town. All this can be defined by the short name of Plovdiv - the cultural capital of Bulgaria.
The Bachkovo Monastery is one of the largest in Bulgaria and combining its orthodox culture with centuries-old Japanese plane trees creates a unique atmosphere. Extremely picturesque, beautiful and well-organized - the monastery with its holy calm and charming fountains can make your time pass unnoticed in silence and blissful peace. Not so, of course, are the pretty stalls located in front of the monastery itself, where you can experience the Bulgarian diversity in culinary traditions, crafts and medicine.
