Plovdiv is an ancient city with a huge history and importance throughout its life. Accompanying the life of the fearsome Thracians, the wise Byzantines and the great Bulgarians, this city has a lot to show you. Its old town with renaissance houses, archaeological excavations of roman stadiums and aqueducts culminates in the fully restored amphitheater, where if you're lucky you can enjoy a live performance and its acoustics. The main street is full of life, the picturesque neighborhood "Kapana" brings together the best of modern cuisine and of course mellow wine, the area around the mosque and of course the view from the 4 peaks located around the city center can keep you entertained more than necessary. If of course you are a lover of art, culture and antiquities - you will be fascinated walking around the old town. All this can be defined by the short name of Plovdiv - the cultural capital of Bulgaria.
The Bachkovo Monastery is one of the largest in Bulgaria and combining its orthodox culture with centuries-old Japanese plane trees creates a unique atmosphere. Extremely picturesque, beautiful and well-organized - the monastery with its holy calm and charming fountains can make your time pass unnoticed in silence and blissful peace. Not so, of course, are the pretty stalls located in front of the monastery itself, where you can experience the Bulgarian diversity in culinary traditions, crafts and medicine.

Fantastic trip with Penguin Travel! Loved all the sights we got to see in Saudi Arabia. Abdulaziz and Lyuben were very helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. Would highly recommend for solo and group travelers, especially those wanting an "off the beaten path" experience. Can't wait to travel with Penguin again!

It’s the newest country in the world and one that a lot of people haven’t even heard of. Those who have, usually associate it with the military conflict that has been tearing up the region for decades. But behind all of that, lies a country of ancient cultural rituals, a myriad of colorful local tribes and raw natural beauty. It is still the most challenging destinations for the...

Can you name the country with the most pyramids in the world? Nope, it’s not Egypt. The country which holds this record with more than 200 pyramids is actually Egypt’s southern neighbor – Sudan. Though not as big as the Egyptian ones, they are just as impressive and have just as intriguing history, dating back to 8th century BC, to the kingdom of Kush. Since the Sudanese...

Rwanda is a small African country, whose name is often mostly associated with the horrific genocide that happened here in 1994. It was one of the most tragic events in the history not only of Rwanda, but the world. However, it was also a turning point in the country's history. It has since then embarked on a new path of social, economic and ecological development and deserves to be known...
