Itinerary:
Day 1. Arrival in Malabo & Colonial Heritage Tour
Your adventure begins with your arrival at Malabo International Airport, where you’ll be greeted and transferred to your hotel. After some rest, the afternoon is dedicated to discovering the colonial charm of Equatorial Guinea’s capital. With a knowledgeable local guide, you’ll visit key landmarks including the grand Cathedral of Santa Isabel, Independence Square, vibrant markets, and artisan shops that showcase the island’s cultural heritage. This gentle introduction to Malabo offers both historical insight and a sense of place to begin your journey.
Day 2. Rebola, Pico Basile, Ilachi Waterfalls & Sipopo
The day begins early with a scenic drive to Rebola, a hillside Bubi village offering sweeping views over Malabo Bay and the volcanic ridges beyond. From there, the journey continues to the summit of Pico Basile, Bioko’s highest mountain at 3,011 meters, where you'll visit the secluded Church of Mother Bisila—an important spiritual site hidden within the forest. An optional guided hike through the rainforest leads to the twin cascades of Ilachi Waterfalls, where local legends and biodiversity create an unforgettable atmosphere. In the afternoon, unwind in Sipopo, where you can cross the bridge to Horacio Islet for peaceful nature walks and ocean views. The day concludes with a return to Malabo for the night.
Day 3. Southern Escape – Arena Blanca, Luba, Batete & Ureka
Today’s journey takes you south along Bioko’s dramatic coastline. The first stop is Arena Blanca, or White Sand Beach, famous for its seasonal butterflies and refreshing waters. From there, you’ll head to Luba, a former colonial port town where a short walk reveals its historic buildings and picturesque waterfront. In Batete, visit the remarkable wooden church and participate in a community outreach experience, delivering school furniture and interacting with local students. The afternoon is spent in Ureka, one of the island’s most pristine rainforest areas. Here, you can explore black sand beaches, coastal cliffs, and - if the season is right - watch sea turtles nesting along the shore. After a full day of exploration, you’ll return to Malabo for the evening.
Day 4. Inland Highlands – Baney, Bososo, Riaba, Moka & Lake Biao
Heading inland, today focuses on the biodiversity and culture of Bioko’s highlands. Short stops in the towns of Baney and Bososo offer a glimpse into rural life before the road leads you to Riaba’s rolling valleys and the misty colonial village of Moka. From here, you’ll begin a guided trek through dense cloud forest to reach Lake Biao, a beautiful crater lake nestled inside a dormant volcano. Along the way, spot endemic birds and plants unique to Bioko. In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Program (BBPP), where researchers share their work on protecting the island’s endangered primates, sea turtles, and ecosystems. It’s a day rich in learning, nature, and connection.
Day 5. Malabo Promenade & Farewell
On your final day, enjoy a light program based on your flight time. You may choose to stroll along the new Malabo Promenade, a revitalized waterfront area ideal for photos and reflection, or visit the nearby National Park, a peaceful green space showcasing local flora. There’s time for last-minute shopping at artisan markets before you are transferred to the airport for your departure, bringing your Bioko Island journey to a close.
