Itinerary:
Day 1. Arrival in Dushanbe, Tajikistan - travel to Faizabad, Afghanistan
We’ll start the day early with a meet-up in Dushanbe, most likely in the lobby of Hotel Shumon (the exact meeting point will be confirmed in your final travel voucher). From there, we’ll drive south to the Shir Khan Bandar border crossing, where you'll get your Afghanistan visa on arrival — we’ll be there to assist with the process. Once across the border, we’ll continue to Kunduz to sort out the permits for Badakhshan Province. Then it's on to Faizabad, a laid-back town surrounded by mountains and our base for the night.(/-/D)
Day 2. Ishkashim
Today we head southeast to Ishkashim, a small town at the entrance to the stunning Wakhan Corridor. The drive takes us through mountain landscapes and fertile valleys as we leave the bustle of Faizabad behind. Ishkashim sits where the Panj and Wakhan rivers meet and is the last major stop before the road narrows into one of the most remote regions of Afghanistan. We’ll shop for food and take care of permit formalities here. It's also a great place to soak in the atmosphere of this unique borderland, home to the Wakhi people and rich in history and culture. Overnight in Ishkashim. (B/-/-)
Day 3. Ishkashim - Qala-e-Panj
We continue deeper into the legendary Wakhan Corridor, following narrow mountain roads through a landscape of rugged peaks, glacial rivers, and remote valleys. This is Wakhi territory, where ancient traditions still shape daily life. Along the way, we’ll pass through tiny stone villages and meet locals tending their livestock or walking long distances on foot — always ready with a wave or a smile. Life here is simple, peaceful, and deeply connected to the land. Our journey ends in the village of Qala-e-Panj, where we settle in for the night surrounded by the silence of the high mountains. (B/L/D)
Day 4. Qala-e-Panj - Sarhad-e-Broghil
Today we travel to Sarhad-e-Broghil, the last village at the edge of the Wakhan Corridor and one of the most isolated settlements in Afghanistan. The journey is slow and bumpy, but the landscapes are absolutely breathtaking — wild rivers, hanging glaciers, and towering peaks everywhere you look. Sarhad sits at the gateway to the Pamir Mountains, where the road ends and ancient footpaths begin. This is where the Wakhi herders take their flocks to high pastures in summer, and life moves at the rhythm of the seasons. It’s a place few travelers ever reach, and the sense of remoteness is unforgettable. (B/L/D)
Day 5. Sarhad-e-Broghil
Today is all about slowing down and soaking in the magic of Sarhad-e-Broghil. With no roads beyond this point, the village feels like the end of the world — peaceful, timeless, and surrounded by towering mountains. We’ll spend the day exploring the area on foot, visiting Wakhi homes, and learning about their way of life, which has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Expect warm hospitality, curious children, and a glimpse into a world far removed from modern distractions. (B/L/D)
Day 6. Return to Ishkashim
After a peaceful rest in Sarhad-e-Broghil, we head back toward Ishkashim, retracing our route through the beautiful Wakhan Corridor. As we drive, you’ll get one last look at the remote villages, vast valleys, and snow-capped peaks that make this area so unique. This is a chance to see the corridor from a different angle and take in the landscapes from a fresh perspective. (B/L/D)
Day 7. Return to Faizabad
After a few days in the remote highlands, today we head back to Faizabad, the provincial capital of Badakhshan. The journey offers a fresh perspective on the stunning landscapes we’ve traveled through, with plenty of time to reflect on the rugged beauty of the Wakhan Corridor. As we drive, we’ll pass through more small villages, winding rivers, and dramatic mountain views. (B/L/D)
Day 8. Return to Dushanbe, Tajikistan. End of services
On the final day of our journey, we’ll make our way back to Tajikistan, crossing the border at Shir Khan. The drive takes us through Kunduz Province, where the landscapes begin to change as we leave the mountains behind and approach the lowlands. Once we cross into Tajikistan, your adventure comes to a close, with memories of the remote Wakhan Corridor and its incredible landscapes and people. The tour ends upon arrival in Dushanbe. (B/-/-)
