Mogadishu Explorer: The White Pearl Uncovered

Itinerary:

Day 1. Arrival in Mogadishu, Somalia

Upon arrival at Aden Adde International Airport, receive immigration assistance and  transfer to your hotel. Enjoy lunch at the hotel or outside restauarent , followed by a detailed tour briefing.

In the afternoon, drive along Makka Almukarama Road, one of Mogadishu’s main commercial streets, and see the Arco Trionfo di Popolape, as well as the statue of Ahmed Gurey, the freedom hero. Head to Lido Beach for a relaxing boat ride along the Indian Ocean. Then visit Mogadishu Mall, one of the largest malls in Hamarweyn, and explore its various shops. Afterward, relax at a rooftop café with panoramic views of Mogadishu Cathedral, the historic Arch of Umberto I, and Arba’a Rukun Mosque in the medieval Shangani District. Stop at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier (Daljirka Dahsoon) and pass by Peace Park.

In the evening, take a walking tour to Ali Jimcale Mosque, an impressive Turkish-style mosque, and enjoy a relaxed evening at Feynuus Bowling with a game of bowling. Finally, return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Mogadishu.

Day 2. Exploring Mogadishu

After breakfast at 9:00 AM, head to the Mogadishu Fish Market, a bustling coastal hub where local fishermen bring in giant daily catches. From there, visit the scenic Italian Lighthouse and the historic Othman Castle ruins, where boats unload fresh fish and sharks along the shore. Continue with a guided walk through the Hamarweyne Old Neighborhood to absorb the local atmosphere and browse souvenir stalls.

Next, drive through Shanghai Old City and view the Former U.S. Embassy, its walls still marked by bullet holes from the 1991 Civil War. Stop at the Hawo Tako Statue to honor the iconic female freedom fighter, then visit the Somalia National Theatre to experience a live folklore performance featuring traditional dance and fire-licking acts.

After exploring local money exchange stalls, pay your respects at the 14 October 2017 Explosion Memorial Tower. You will also visit a camel dairy farm on the city outskirts to learn about Somalia’s deep-rooted pastoral traditions and sample fresh camel milk.

In the afternoon, head to Jazeera Salty Lake to spot wild flamingos, then unwind at Abaydhaxan Beach Resort with traditional Somali tea, dates, and popcorn. Conclude the day watching the sunset over Nimow Sand Dune before returning to your hotel in Mogadishu for the night. B/-/-

Optional Drive-By Add-On: Bakara Market Area

A brief drive-by through the Bakara Market area (near the historic 1993 Black Hawk Down incident site). Please note: tourist movement is strictly restricted here (no walking tours, no physical wreckage remaining). Due to extreme local traffic, this stop is purely optional and may be skipped to protect the rest of the day's itinerary.

Day 3. Departure

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel followed by room check-out. You will then be transferred to the airport in time for your departure flight. B/-
