Zulu Trail - Lesotho, South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique

Zulu Trail - Lesotho, South Africa, Eswatini, Mozambique 2780 , 17 Days

The Zulu people traditionally inhabited the region that is now KwaZulu-Natal province. This area lies along the eastern coast of South Africa, around the valleys, plains, and coastal regions north of the Tugela River and southern Mozambique. Our adventure begins in the high-altitude calm of Maseru, gradually unfolding through dramatic gorges, traditional Basotho villages, and rugged wilderness lodges. Crossing into South Africa, you’ll experience the contrasting rhythm of the Drakensberg highlands and the warm Indian Ocean coastline before continuing into Eswatini, a kingdom rich with cultural tradition and protected natural reserves. From there, the journey transitions into Mozambique’s alluring blend of Afro-Portuguese charm, tropical beaches, and island-dotted marine sanctuaries. Between wildlife encounters, mountain passes, UNESCO-protected wetlands and idyllic coastlines, this itinerary offers a rich balance of culture, nature and relaxation.

Highlights:
La Kome Cave Dwellings (Lesotho) – 19th-century cave homes still inhabited today; a National Heritage Site
Maletsunyane Falls (Lesotho) – One of Africa’s highest single-drop waterfalls at 204 meters
iSimangaliso Wetland Park (South Africa) – first UNESCO World Heritage Site in South Africa, known for hippos, crocodiles, birdlife, and diverse ecosystems
Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary (Eswatini) – The kingdom’s oldest nature reserve, set beneath the Nyonyane Mountains
Bazaruto Archipelago (Mozambique) – A protected tropical marine paradise with turquoise waters, coral reefs and rare species such as the dugong
