3 reasons to visit Madeira – The open-air botanical garden

3 reasons to visit Madeira – The open-air botanical garden

1.Madeira’s mountainous landscape is a hiker’s paradise.
For those who love to hike this is exactly the right destination. Thanks to the mild climate, you can hike here all year round. During the hot summer months from July to August, the mountains are just absolutely gorgeous. The climate from October to May is rather volatile as you may sometimes encounter fog and rain, but on the positive side you will be immersed and surrounded by greener landscapes.

2. Madeira’s nature reserves are well-preserved.

The region is not named “Pearl of the Atlantic” for nothing. Conservation measures have to be imposed if Madeira is to keep its edge for the next generation of local residents and travelers. Three of the region’s declared protected areas boast striking beauty unique to the archipelago.

3. Gastronomy

What’s better after a day-long hike than something delicious and comforting? Madeira’s gastronomy shouldn’t be missed and is made up of fresh seafood, exotic fruits, and savory meat-based recipes. Plus, there is always the sweet Madeira wine.

The Silk Road: now and then

“The Silk Road” is a term that conjures up fairytale-like images of long camel caravans travelling through bare deserts, of brave adventurers and merchants bargaining in exotic oriental markets.
