Walking Via Alpina Purple Route
Find yourself surrounded by mountain majesties, shimmering lakes and high plateaus
Following the trail of the long range international walking path connecting Mt. Triglav with Obersdorf Germany, you will be walking along mountain ridges, meadows and valley floors, slowly descending from east to west. This is a picturesque alpine trail with stunning views at every turn.
Highlights:

♦ Lake Bohinj – a large glacial lake, which lies entirely within the borders of Triglav National Park and has a wonderful naturalness

Itinerary:
Day 1. Arrival in Jezersko
With its idyllic location in a basin between the towering Kamnik-Savinja Alps and Karawanke Mountains, on the border with Austria, the village of Jezersko will be the starting point for your hike. You will spend the next two nights here.
Day 2. Loop hike around Jezersko
A warm-up hike to Česka koča mountain hut. This short walk leads up to just above the tree line to one of the oldest alpine huts in Slovenia (100 years old), where you will be blessed with an outstanding view into the two parallel valleys. Your return route takes you past Shepherds Lake and back to Jezersko. Walk 2 hrs/ descend and ascend 640 m.
Day 3. Jezersko – Preddvor
Following a short bus transfer to the starting point, you will hike up Baseljsko Sedlo and head to the mountain hut on the Kokra saddle where you could have lunch and enjoy an outstanding view across the Kamnik-Savinja mountain range. During the afternoon you will take a nice stroll back down though hillside villages to Preddvor and past Črnava Lake. Walk 6 hrs* / ascent 900m and descent 1100m.
Day 4. Preddvor - Tržič
Today you will head west through a picture-perfect vista framed by two great mountain ranges. The trail traverses the foothills of the Karawanke mountain range with the Julian Alps forming the backdrop. The trail passes through typical alpine villages, wide open valleys resplendent with wild flower and Kozolec. Walk 4 hrs* / ascent 200m.
Day 5. Tržič - Begunje
You will be taken by car to the starting point at Ljubelj, on the Austrian border. From here the trail leads through a short underground tunnel originally dug by merchants in order to reduce the travelling time between Carniola and Carinthia. As you emerge at the other side the trail then follows the old shepherd’s route before entering the peaceful Draga Valley, which takes you on your final leg into the historic village of Begunje. 2 kms down the road are the ruins of Kamen Castle. Walk 4 hrs* / descent 700 m, ascent 250m.
Day 6. Begunje – Bled
As the morning sunlight fills the valley, you will ascend to the little church of St. Petrus. From here you trek along a mountain ridge, taking in the stunning views across the Sava Valley. As you descend towards Bled, you could take a short diversion into the stunning 1.6km Vintgar Gorge, carved 150m deep into the mountains by the Radovna River. Walk 5 hrs* / descent 150m, ascent 200m.
Day 7: Pokljuka – Uskovnica Sadle – Voje – Lake Bohinj
Today you will be driven by car up to the Pokljuka Plateau from which you will begin your hike across mountain pastures and old farmhouses where you will come to a viewing point providing outstanding views into the Bohinj Valley. Your final destination is Lake Bohinj, the jewel in the heart of the Triglav National Park, and the small settlement of Ribčev Laz (Fisherman’s Pass). Walk 5 hrs, 12 kms / ascent 200m.
Day 8. Departure
End of the tour or extension of stay in Bohinj.
