A Wild Brown Trout Weekend in Pirin Mountain

Flyfishing is much more than a hobby. It is a way of life!

A unique chance to visit a truly wild place and fly fish for wild brown trout and char on water so gin clear that you are able to see a rising fish from the bottom on 5 meters depth. And all these surrounded by stunning mountain landscape. 

More than 150 Glacial lakes with fish and more than 100 of them are situated in Pirin mountainThe biggest one is Popovo Lake. The deepest one is also Popovo lake – 29,5 meters (97 feet). The highest lake on the Balkan peninsula is Gorno Polejansko Lake- 2710 meters above sea level (8891 feet) - also situated in Pirin.

Itinerary:
Day 1. Arrival (Friday) (non fishing day)

We pick you up from the airport/station/bus station. Transport to Damianitsa hut in Pirin mountain. We check in and have lunch and dinner in the hut.

Day 2. Valiavishki lakes (Saturday)
Fishing at the Valiavishki lakes and other lakes around. In the late afternoon we have a 1,5 hours walking to Tevno Lake hut. We have dinner there.

Day 3. Fishing at Damianishka river (Sunday)
Today we go for fishing to Damianishka river. In the late afternoon we go back to Tevno lake hut and stay there for the night. Dinner.

Day 4. Departure (Monday)
Walk from Tevno Lake to the town of Bansko and transportation from there to Sofia, bus station, airport or train station.

Price includes: ►accomodation at mountain huts with rooms with 2, 3, 4 and more beds; common sanitary facilities with dinner and breakfast ► transfer to/from airport ► car/minivan transport  ► overnights at huts ► 1 fishing guide for all travellers

Other expences: ►Tackle - All type of suitable fishing equipment (rod, reel, line and anything you need) can be hired for 15 EUR/per day.

Good to know: ► The maximum time we will spend hiking is no more than two and a half to three hours per day. ► Fishing is allowed only during the weekends and bank holidays ► A year, month or week license are available at very low price. ► The size limits are brown trout 23cm (9 inches), rainbow trout 25cm (10 inches) and char 23cm (9 inches). ►The average size of the fish caught is about 25 cm -250 grams but every year a record fish bigger than 2 kilos have been caught. ► An angler is allowed to keep 8 fish with maximum combined weight of 2 kg (4 pounds).

Tackle: ►4 to 7 weight rods, 9 to 10 ft; ►Always bring a spare rod !; ►Tip action because of the bushes around the lakes; ► Darkly colored lines (olive); ► Looong leaders 15 to 20 feet; ► Degreased Fluorocarbon tippets; ► Floatant

Our fishing guide: Stanislav Mankov is a flyfisher who started flyfishing when he was 15, Honorable Bachelor degree in Wildlife Biology in Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, England.; Stanislav is qualified as an Advance AAPGAI game angling instructor for single rod techniques; he has competed for the Bulgarian fishing club „Stari Vidri“ since 2005and have been in the national team for 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008. Stanislav is also a Republican Championship of Bulgaria for 2006, 2007 and 2008. He has also participated in European and World Championships in individual tournaments.
