Submerge in the magic natural world of Vratsa karst natural reserve. Explore caves, gorges, eco trails, vast meadows, rocky peaks rare flora in the karst paradise of Vratsa mountain. We explore on foot the hidden trails in the alpine meadows of the mountains, the old Beech forests, the sinister caves with amazing stalactites and not the least the local traditions, cuisine and habits.
Tour Highlights:
♦ Ledenika cave - only 300m long but one of the most beautiful caves in Bulgaria with 10 halls, numerous cave formation and icy stalactites in winter time.
♦ Vratsata rock phenomena - rock gate with 400m high rock walls
♦ Skaklia waterfalls – Bovska (90m) and Vratsa (140m) Skaklia are one of the highest and most majestic waterfalls in Bulgaria
♦ Cherepish monastery -founded in 14th c. it is picturesquely situated near the banks of Iskar river in the stunning surroundings of the white Liutibrod rocks
Itinerary:
Day 1. Arrival - Zgorigrad Village
Transfer (1,30h) to Vratsa town and further to Zgorigrad village. We start walking on the beautiful Pine stone eco-trails leading us up on a narrow rocky river valley through wooden ladders and stairs to the 50 m high Borov kamak waterfall (Pine stone). Picnic lunch on a nice meadow besides the river. We go down to Zgorigrad village on a nice forest trail with great panoramic views to the valley and rocky peaks. In the afternoon we go with the car to beautiful Ledenika cave for a visit and do a short hike on the study route “Karst and biodiversity”. Transfer to Vratsata rock phenomena where we stay overnight in a hotel. Evening walk in Vratsa town.
Hiking time: 5 hours; uphill/downhill walk: 500/ 550m
Day 2. Vratsa - Sofia
Today we start on the rocky path up to the highest impermanent waterfall in Bulgaria – Skaklia (140m) and then up to the top of the rocks on a vast karst field. We continue on nice meadows with great panoramic views and go down on a nice forest trail among the rocks. On the way back to Sofia we stop at the picturesque area of Liutibrod rocks, the rock phenomenon Ritliite and the beautiful Cherepish monastery.
Hiking time: 5 hours; uphill/downhill walk: 500/ 500m
